Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced they have reached a deal with President Donald Trump that would protect certain undocumented immigrants as part of a broader border security agreement.

The two Democratic leaders made the announcement Wednesday night after a meeting with Trump:

“We had a very productive meeting at the White House with the President. The discussion focused on DACA. We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that’s acceptable to both sides,” the statement read.

“We also urged the President to make permanent the cost-sharing reduction payments, and those discussions will continue.”

DACA is the Obama-era program that protects some 800,000 people living in the US illegally from being deported and allows them to work legally. Attorney General Jeff Sessions had announced last week that the program would be phased out within six months.
